HOW TO CREATE A STUNNING "WISPY" LOOK

HOW TO CREATE A STUNNING "WISPY" LOOK

Wispy sets are in! The lash industry is always coming up with new styles and trends and right now, wispy is one of the most requested looks by clients. If you haven’t added it to your service menu yet, it’s time to! The best part is that you can make any type of set wispy - whether it be a classic, hybrid, light volume, volume, or mega volume.

In this blog, we’ll let you in on all the details on how to create the perfect wispy set and our favorite products to incorporate!

WHAT IS A WISPY SET?

Wispy sets give off that feathery and luscious look while mimicking the style of strip lashes. They’re made from different lengths with a combination of closed fans (or spikes) and regular fans. Spikes instantly add that bold look! It’s such a versatile look that you can make any regular style wispy such as a wispy cat eye, wispy doll eye, wispy kitten eye, etc. It suits any eye shape and is a go-to for many, even celebrities!

HOW TO CREATE A WISPY SET

1. MAP OUT YOUR SET
To map out a wispy set, you can make any regular mapping wispy. The lengths of your set will depend on the style and lengths your client desires.

For example, if you are doing a cat eye set with lengths 10-14mm, you would map out in even sections with the lengths 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14mm. Then, you would map out your spikes. Your spikes are going to be at least 3 millimeters longer than your base lengths. So you would map out the spikes on top with the lengths 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17mm.

2. MAKE YOUR SPIKES FIRST
We recommend starting with your spikes first! Spikes are just another term for closed fans. We recommend using .05 or .07 diameter for your spikes to appear more bold. There are a couple ways to make a spike:

The first way is to use primer or bonder:
1. Grab your primer or bonder and a micro brush.
2. Place a drop onto the micro brush.
3. Run the brush across the lash strip. The lashes will become wet and form into sections, looking like spikes.
4. Grab the lashes higher above the strip.
5. Pull the lashes off the strip towards you.
6. Dip it in your glue without fanning it out.

The second way is a little more advanced but is great for when you’re familiar with the control of your tweezers:
1. Grab the lashes higher above the strip.
2. Pull the lashes off the strip towards you.
3. Dip it in your glue without fanning it out.
4. Pinch the top of the closed fan to make the spike more pointed.

If you’re having trouble making spikes - don’t worry, we got you!! We offer premade spikes to make it easier and faster for you!

3. PLACE YOUR SPIKES SYMMETRICALLY

Make sure you’re placing your spikes in the same sections on both eyes. Failing to do so can make your set look messy. You should have at least 7-10 spikes on each eye.

4. PLACE YOUR SPIKES ON THE TOP LAYER ONLY

In order for your spikes to fully show and not get lost in your set, you need to be putting them on the top layer of lashes ONLY!

5. FILL IN THE REST OF THE SET WITH NARROW FANS

After you’ve placed all your spikes, it’s time to fill in the rest of the set with fans. We recommend using narrow fans so your spikes are more visible. It also gives off that more dramatic and dense look!

HOW LONG DO WISPY SETS LAST?
Wispy sets should last just as long as any normal set would last! With proper application and aftercare, they should last up to 2-3 weeks! Clients should still schedule their needed maintenance fill depending on the retention and the growth of their natural lashes.

Some tips to keep your lashes in shape:
-Wash your lashes everyday with a safe lash shampoo then dry them with a fan.
-Don’t sleep on your sides, only on your back to prevent your lashes from rubbing on your pillows!
-Use a silk pillow case so your lashes don’t get caught on your pillow.
-Avoid oil-based skincare and makeup products around your eyes.
-Do not pick or pull your lashes!
-Brush your lashes daily to prevent them from sticking to each other.

Learning wispy sets can be quite a headache at first. However, practice makes perfect! Once you’ve mastered your spikes and placement, you can freestyle any wispy set! Your clients will be coming back for more and they can show off your beautiful art to all their friends and family!
