Prepping Your Client Before And During Their Lash Appointment Is The Most Important Part In Order For Everything To Go Smoothly And For You To Maximize Your Application Time. You Want To Make Sure Your Client’s Natural Lashes Are As Clean As Possible To Ensure You Have A Clean Base In Order To Have Best Retention.
It’s Important To Inform Your Clients On How To Come Prepared To Their Lash Appointment. Sharing These Tips With Them Will Make The Prepping Process Much Easier For You And Allow Them To Be As Comfortable As Possible For Their Service.
WHAT TIPS SHOULD I GIVE MY CLIENTS TO COME PREPARED FOR THEIR LASH APPOINTMENT?
1. NO MASCARA! ESPECIALLY WATERPROOF.
If You Come With Mascara On, Extra Time Will Be Spent Removing It And Making Sure The Natural Lashes Are Squeaky Clean In Order For The Lash Extension To Bond To The Natural Lash.
Waterproof Mascara Is A Lash Artist’s Worst Nightmare! This Adds More Time To The Appointment.
If 15 Minutes Are Spent Trying To Remove The Mascara, That Could’ve Been 15 Minutes Of Time Spent Making The Set As Full As It Needs To Be. There Can Also Be A Additional Charge For Deep Cleaning.
2. ARRIVE WITH A CLEAN FACE. NO MAKEUP, FACE CREAMS, OR SUNBLOCK AROUND THE EYE AREA.
Oils From Face Creams And Sunblock Can Prevent The Lash Extensions From Adhering To The Natural Lash Properly. Oils And Lash Extensions Do Not Mix! Makeup Under The Eyes Can Also Prevent The Eye Pads From Sticking To Their Skin.
3. NO CONTACTS!
We Can’t Stress This Enough! Having Contacts On Can Increase The Risks Of Getting A Chemical Burn From The Glue And It Melting Or Burning The Contacts.
Closing Your Eyes With Contacts On For A Long Period Of Time Can Also Dry Out Your Eyes.
Wearing Contacts On When You Have Lash Extensions On Is Completely Safe However, Wearing Them During Your Appointment Is Not!
4. NO CAFFEINE BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT.
Consuming Any Caffeine Prior To Your Appointment Can Cause Jittery Eyes. It Will Make It Harder To Isolate And Apply The Lashes Due To The Constant Movement And Twitching.
5. USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE HAND
Try To Limit Your Liquid Intake Before As You Will Be Laying For A Couple Hours. Lash Artists Need All The Lashing Time They Can Get Without Any Interruptions. However, We Understand If You Gotta Go, Then You Gotta Go!
6. DRESS IN COMFY
Dressing In Comfortable Clothes Will Ensure You Are Relaxed During Your Whole Appointment. You Can Even Bring A Blanket In Case You Get Chilly And You’ll Be Ready For A Good Lash Nap!
NOW IT’S THE DAY OF THE LASH APPOINTMENT! FAILING TO START WITH A CLEAN BASE CAN CAUSE MAJOR RETENTION ISSUES
AND YOU’LL RECEIVE THAT MESSAGE FROM YOUR CLIENT SAYING THEIR LASHES WERE FALLING OUT WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS!
HERE’S ALL THE STEPS YOU’LL WANT TO MEMORIZE IN ORDER TO HAVE LONG LASTING RETENTION:
1. START WITH A LASH CONSULTATION
A Lash Consultation Is The Most Important Elements Of The Lash Appointment To Know Your Clients Wants And Set Realistic Expectations. As A Professional Lash Artist, It’s Your Job To Know What Types Of Mapping Best Suits Their Eye Shape. You Need To Consider Wether They Have Almond, Downturned, Hooded, Etc. Eyes. They May Come In With Inspiration Pictures But You Should Always Inform Your Clients That Everyone’s Eye Shape Is Different And That The Style May Look Different On Them Than The Picture. Your Clients Will Build Trust With You And It’ll Show That They’re In Good Hands.
Some Clients May Be Not A Good Fit For Lash Extensions And It’s Always Important To Analyze What Type Of Lashes You’re Working With Before Starting. If You See That Their Lashes Are Sparse, Thin, Or They Have Almost None, They Are Not A Good Candidate For Lash Extensions. You Need To Recommend Them A Good Eyelash Serum And Consistently Use It. They’ll Need To Come Back In 2-3 Months When Their Natural Lashes Are More Stronger, Thicker, And There Are No Noticeable Gaps. Assess Which Appropriate Weight, Curl, And Lengths Are Suited For Them In Order To Maintain The Health Of Their Natural Lasshes.
Some Questions To Ask Your Clients Are:
1) Have You Had Any Allergic Reactions To Lash Extension Glue In The Past?
2) Do You Have Any Hair-Loss Conditions?
3) Do You Have Any Allergies Or Sensitive Eyes?
4) Do You Wear Glasses Or Contacts?
5) How Often Do You Wear Makeup?
6) What Is Your Lifestyle Like?
7) What Look Are You Trying To Achieve? Natural Or Dramatic?
2. REMOVE ALL EYE MAKE UP
There May Be Some Clients That Will Still Show Up With Eyeliner Or Eyeshadow, Or Have Left Over Mascara On If They Didn’t Have Time To Remove It Beforehand.
Make Sure You’re Using An Oil-Free Makeup Remover To Take It Off Completely.
Our Conditioning Eye Make Up Remover Pads Are Safe To Use With Eyelash Extensions And Can Scrub Off Any Waterproof Makeup!
3. PERFORM A LASH BATH
Giving Your Client A Lash Bath Using A Safe Foaming Cleanser Will Remove All The Oil, Dirt, And Residue And Ensure You Have A Clean Canvas.
You’ll Need A Lash Shampoo, Lip Applicator, Drip Bottle, And A Towel.
Use One Or Two Pumps Of The Lash Shampoo Directly On Your Client’s Natural Lashes And Use The Lip Applicator To Thoroughly Clean The Lashes And Around The Eye Area. Wash The Cleanser Off With Water Using A Drip Bottle.
Tilt Their Head To The Side So The Water Runs Away From Their Face And Pat Their Eyes Dry With A Towel. Dry The Lashes With A Fan.

4. APPLY EYEPADS AND TAPE DOWN THEIR BOTTOM LASHES
Apply The Eyepads Correctly And Tape Down Their Bottom Lashes. This Is To Ensure That They Don’t Get Glued To The Top Lashes. Bottom Lashes Can Be Tricky Sometimes.
As A Beginner, It Can Be Common For A Lash Extension To Stick To The Bottom Lash. It Happens To All Of Us!
Adjust The Eyepads As Needed. You Can Cut The Pads To Fit Around Their Eye Shape. The Pads And Tape Should Not Be Touching Their Waterline,
Otherwise, It May Scratch Their Eye Or Cause Bruising And They’ll Feel Some Discomfort. Always Ask Your Client If Everything Feels Okay Before Starting The Application.
THESE NEXT 3 STEPS ARE OPTIONAL, BUT IT CAN IMPROVE YOUR RETENTION BY A TON. YOU WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THE LASHES ARE COMPLETELY DRY BETWEEN EVERY STEP AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY DON’T TOUCH YOUR CLIENTS SKIN TO AVOID ANY IRRITATION.
